233,000 marriages were celebrated in France in 2016. 18% of those married in 2016 has previously divorced.

Out of those remarried, one-third had been divorced for less than 5 years. Marrying again shortly after a divorce is less frequent today than it was twenty years ago.

Nearly 80% of people who married in 2016 after divorce were 40 years old or older. The time spent between divorce and remarriage was longer in divorced persons who, in 2016, married with a spouse of the same sex than in those marrying a spouse of the opposite sex.
