The manufacturing industry in 2016 Growth continues but does not create jobs
In 2016, the value added of the manufacturing industry grows by 1.5% in volume, compared with +1.1% in 2015. The transportation equipment sector remains buoyant thanks to household vehicle purchases, the delivery of military equipment, and exports. The refining sector is affected by industrial action, and the agri-food industries by the adverse weather conditions that undermine agricultural production. The manufacturing trade deficit widens. Growth is not strong enough to create jobs. Payroll employment drops, while recourse to temporary labour continues to grow post-crisis. Companies continue to focus on restoring their margin rate.
