In June 2017, output fell back in the manufacturing industry (−0.9% after +2.0% in May), as well as in the whole industry (−1.1% after +1.9%).

The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In June 2017, output fell back in the manufacturing industry (−0.9% after +2.0% in May), as well as in the whole industry (−1.1% after +1.9%).

Manufacturing output grew sharply over the second quarter of 2017 (+1.3%)

Over the second quarter of 2017, manufacturing output went up sharply in the manufacturing industry (+1.3%) as well as in the overall industry (+1.2%).

Output increased in all branches. It grew markedly in “other manufacturing” (+1.3%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+2.5%) and more moderately in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.6%). It bounced back in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+9.6%). Finally, it increased slightly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.4%) and in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (+0.3%).

Over a year, manufacturing output also rose sharply (+2.4%)

Manufacturing output of the second quarter increased sharply compared to the same quarter of 2016 (+2.4% y-o-y). It also went up in the whole industry (+1.9% y-o-y).

Over a year, output increased in most branches such as “other manufacturing” (+2.0%), manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+4.9%), manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.5%) and manufacture of transport equipment (+1.3%). It soared in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+18.2%). However, it shrank in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−1.2%).

In June, output fell back strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (−4.4% after +8.0%)

After a clear rebound in May, output slipped back markedly in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−5.2% after +6.1%) and in that of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (−3.6% after +10.4%).

It declined sharply in machinery and equipment (−2.7% after +1.5%)

Output diminished again in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−2.4% after −3.5%). It fell back in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (−2.1% after +4.7%) and in that of electrical equipment (−4.2% after +4.7%).

Output shrank markedly in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply, waste management (−2.2% after +0.7%)

Output dropped in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (−2.6% after +0.7%) and in quarrying (−2.3% after +2.1%) contrarily to water and waste management (+1.1% after +0.2%).

Output slipped back in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.7% after +1.6%)

Output fell back in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.7% after +1.6%), in particular for “other food products”.

Output grew slightly in “other manufacturing” (+0.2% after +1.0%)

Output grew sharply in pharmaceuticals (+3.0%) and in other manufacturing; repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+1.4%). Conversely, it slipped back in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products (−1.4%), in chemicals (−1.0%), in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (−0.4%) and in that of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and footwear (−1.2%).

Output accelerated in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+4.4% after +2.1%)

Output went up further in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+4.4% after +2.1%), with the restart of a refinery after industrial action.
