On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry declined for the fifth month in a row in June 2017 (−0.4% after −0.6% in May). Year over year, they kept increasing but more slowly than in May (+1.5% after +2.3%).
Producer prices in French industry: −0.4% in June
On all markets (French market and foreign markets), producer prices in industry declined for the fifth month in a row in June 2017 (−0.4% after −0.6% in May). Year over year, they kept increasing but more slowly than in May (+1.5% after +2.3%).
FRENCH MARKET: −0.4%
In June, French producer prices in industry for the French market went down again (−0.4% after −0.6 %). They were mainly driven downward by refined petroleum products while the prices remained on the rise or virtually stable in the other main industrial sectors.
Further decrease in prices of refined petroleum products
In June, the prices of refined petroleum products fell sharply again (−7.7% after −6.7%) in the wake of the petroleum price. The decrease involved all refined petroleum products apart from lubricating oils. Year over year, prices of refined petroleum products shrank (−2.0% after +10.8% the previous month).
Virtual stability in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
The prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water were virtually stable (+0.1% in June after −1.6% in May). The rise in electricity price was offset by the drop in prices of gas trading and of steam and air conditionning supply services.
Virtual stability in food prices
In June, food prices were virtually stable as in May (+0.1%). By product, variations ranged from +2.0% for prepared and preserved fruit and vegetable products to −1.7% for vegetable and animal oils and fats. Year over year, food prices increased by 1.7% after 1.8% in May.
Virtual stability in prices of “other industrial products”
In June, the prices of “other industrial products” were almost unchanged (−0.1% after +0.0%). Prices of chemical products declined in the wake of the petroleum price. Prices of other products were stable or virtually stable. Year over year, prices of “other industrial products” remained increasing (+2.0%).
FOREIGN MARKETS: −0.5%
The producer prices of French industrial products sold on foreign markets kept declining in June (−0.5% after −0.3%). Prices went down or were virtually stable in all sectors. Year over year, export prices slowed down (+1.8% after +2.5%).
Import price indices of industrial products: −0.7% in June
In June, the import prices of industrial products dropped again (−0.7% after −0.8%). Imported product prices fell except for those of food products which continued to increase and those of transport equipment which remained virtually stable. Year over year, import prices slowed down (+1.7% after +3.0%).
