In May 2017, output bounced back sharply in the manufacturing industry (+2.0% after −1.3% in April), as well as in the whole industry (+1.9% after −0.6%).

The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.

In May 2017, output bounced back sharply in the manufacturing industry (+2.0% after −1.3% in April), as well as in the whole industry (+1.9% after −0.6%).

Over the last three months, manufacturing output grew markedly (+1.9%)

Manufacturing output grew sharply over the last three months in the manufacturing industry (+1.9%) as well as in the overall industry (+1.4%).

Output increased markedly in “other manufacturing” (+1.8%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+3.0%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.7%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.2%). Conversely, it decreased sharply in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−2.0%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−2.3%).

Over a year, manufacturing output went up sharply (+2.6%)

Manufacturing output of the last three months increased sharply compared to the same months of 2016 (+2.6%) as well as in the whole industry (+1.9%).

Over a year, output increased in most branches: in “other manufacturing” (+2.3%), in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+4.7%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.3%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.2%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+1.7%). By contrast, it decreased in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (−2.5%).

In May, output bounced back sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+7.4% after −5.4%)

Output picked up sharply in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+9.6% after −6.3%) and in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+5.5% after −4.7%).

Output recovered in “other manufacturing” (+1.2% after −0.5%)

Output grew in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products and other non-metallic mineral products (+2.6%), in chemicals (+2.6%), in the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment (+1.1%) and in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (+3.8%). Conversely, it slipped back in pharmaceuticals (−1.1%).

It rebounded in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+2.0% after −1.6%)

Output rallied strongly in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+4.2% after −0.9%) and in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+4.4% after −0.7%). By contrast, it fell again in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−1.5% after −2.8%).

Output recovered in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.1% after −1.2%), in particularly in the manufacture of bakery and farinaceous products and that of “other food products”.

Output grew again in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply, waste management (+1.0% after +4.3%)

In particular, output continued to grow in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (+1.0% after +5.5%).

Output slowed down in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+1.3% after +9.6%)
