In December 2016, output fell back in the manufacturing industry (−0.8% after +2.4%), as well as in the whole industry (−0.9% after +2.4%).
- Manufacturing output increased by 0.8% over the fourth quarter of 2016
- Over a year, manufacturing output increased slightly (+0.2%)
- In December, output slipped back in “other manufacturing” (−0.8% after +3.0%)

- Output rose slightly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.2% after +0.6%)

The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In December 2016, output fell back in the manufacturing industry (−0.8% after +2.4%), as well as in the whole industry (−0.9% after +2.4%).
Manufacturing output increased by 0.8% over the fourth quarter of 2016
Over the last quarter of 2016, output grew in the manufacturing industry (+0.8% q-o-q), as well as in the overall industry (+1.1% q-o-q).
Output increased markedly in the mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (+3.1%), in that of transport equipment (+2.8%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+2.1%), and slightly in the “other manufacturing” (+0.3%). It soared in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+7.4%). Conversely, it decreased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.7%).
Over a year, manufacturing output increased slightly (+0.2%)
Manufacturing output of the last quarter of 2016 grew slightly compared to the last quarter of 2015 (+0.2% y-o-y). It also went up in the whole industry (+0.4%).
Over the year, output rose sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (+4.7%) and in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply (+2.1%). It jumped in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+6.8%). It went up slightly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.3%). By contrast, it decreased in “other manufacturing” (−0.4%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−1.6%).

In December, output slipped back in “other manufacturing” (−0.8% after +3.0%)
Output fell back sharply in the manufacture of basic metals (−1.9% after +3.3%), in other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment (−1.0%), in pharmaceuticals (−1.3%) and in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (−0.8%). Conversely, it grew again in chemicals (+1.5% after +5.0%).
Output shrank in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply, waste management (−2.0% after +1.8%)
Output declined sharply in electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (−2.2%) after a rise in November (+1.7%).
Output fell back in the manufacture of transport equipment (−1.6% after +3.7%)
Output fell back markedly in the manufacture of other transport equipment (−4.1% after +3.3%). It slowed in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+1.4% after +4.2%).
Output decreased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.7% after +1.0%)
Output went down in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−0.7% after +1.0%), in particular in the processing and preserving of meat and production of meat product.
Output fell back in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−4.3% after +6.0%)
Output plummeted in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−4.3% after +6.0%), due to the shutdown of a refinery.
Output rose slightly in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.2% after +0.6%)
Output bounced back in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+3.9% after −6.7%). By contrast, it slipped back in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (−2.2% after +5.3%) and in that of electrical equipment (−1.9% after +6.8%).
