2017- n° 5In November 2016, manufacturing bounced back markedly (+2.3%) Industrial production index - November 2016
In November 2016, output bounced back markedly in the manufacturing industry (+2.3% after −0.6%). It also grew sharply in the whole industry (+2.2% after −0.1%).
Please note: all the series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In November 2016, output bounced back markedly in the manufacturing industry (+2.3% after −0.6%). It also grew sharply in the whole industry (+2.2% after −0.1%).
Manufacturing output increased by 0.6% over the past three months
Over the past three months, output grew in the manufacturing industry (+0.6% q-o-q), as well as in the overall industry (+0.7% q-o-q).
Output increased in all branches. It rose sharply in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (+1.9%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+1.1%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.9%). It soared in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+16.6%). Finally, it went up slightly in “other manufacturing” (+0.2%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.5%).
Over a year, manufacturing output decreased (−0.3%)
Manufacturing output of the last three months faltered (−0.3% y-o-y) compared to the same months of 2015; so did overall industrial output (−0.4% y-o-y).
Over the year, output diminished sharply in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−2.1%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−1.4%), and more moderately in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply (−0.8%). It was virtually stable in “other manufacturing” (−0.1%). Conversely, it went up strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.4%) and, to a lesser extent, in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+1.0%).

Output recovered in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.3% after −2.0%)
Output rebounded in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.3% after −2.0%), in particular in the processing and preserving of fruits and vegetables and in the manufacture of beverages.
Output rose sharply again in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+6.3% after +3.5%)
Output accelerated in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+6.3% after +3.5%).
Output was stable in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (after +2.3% in October)
Output rallied strongly in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+4.3% after −1.2%) and in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+6.5% after −1.3%). By contrast, it fell back sharply in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (−7.1% after +7.7%).
