In May 2016, prices of frequently purchased goods were stable both in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores.
In May 2016, prices of frequently purchased goods were stable both in hyper and supermarkets and in large and predominantly food stores.
By contrast, excluding hyper and supermarkets, prices of frequently purchased goods faltered for the first time since the beginning of the year (−0.1%).
Considering all the kinds of stores, prices of frequently purchased goods were flat over one month, as last month.
Prices remained down in hyper and supermarkets
Year-on-year, prices of frequently purchased goods in hyper and supermarkets dropped by 0.3% in May after −0.4% in April. In large and predominantly food stores, they fell also by 0.3% year-on-year, as in the three previous month.
In the other kinds of stores, prices of frequently purchased goods slowed down slightly: +0.7% year on year in May after +0.9% in April.
Considering all stores, prices of frequently purchased goods decreased moderatly year-on-year (−0.1%), after a stability during the last four months.

Slight recovery in food prices in hyper and supermarkets in May
In May 2016, prices of food excluding fresh foodstuffs sold in hyper and supermarkets edged up by 0.1%, after four months of decline. Year-on-year, they were down by 0.1%.
Prices of meat strengthened in May (+0.2%). Year-on-year, they increased by 0.6% for the third month in a row. In May 2015, they had declined by 0.3% year-on-year.
Beverage prices rose by +0.2% over one month, whereas they had been fallen since February 2016. Year-on-year, prices of beverages sold in supermarkets remained lower than 12 months ago (−0.3%), albeit to a lesser extent than in April (−0.5%).
Prices of other food products (excluding fresh foodstuffs) were stable in May. Year-on-year, they slipped by 0.4% for the seventh month in a row. In May 2015, they had declined by 1.5% year-on-year.
Further decline in prices of cleaning and personal care products in hyper and supermarkets
In May, prices of cleaning and personal care products sold in hyper and supermarkets dipped again (−0.2% after −0.1% in April). Year-on-year, they decreased by 1.3%. In May 2015, their fall had been a little stronger year-on-year (−1.5%).
