In May 2015, output picked up in the manufacturing industry (+0.6% after –0.8%, in April) as well as in the industry as a whole (+0.4% after –0.8 % in April).
Please note: all the series are seasonally (SA) and working-day adjusted (WDA).
The commentary shows variations of subsections by decreasing contribution. The contribution of a subsection depends on the extent of the change and on its weight.
In May 2015, output picked up in the manufacturing industry (+0.6% after –0.8%, in April) as well as in the industry as a whole (+0.4% after –0.8 % in April).
Manufacturing output rose over the last three months (+0.4%)
Over the last three months, output rose in the manufacturing sector (+0.4% q-o-q) while it was stable in the industry as a whole.
Output improved in almost every sectors: in other manufacturing (+0.4%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.9%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+1.6%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.2%). Output was stable in the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment. Conversely, output declined in mining, quarrying, energy and water supply (–1.7%).
Over the year, manufacturing output increased (+1.4%)
Manufacturing output of the last three months increased compared to the same months of 2014 (+1.4% y-o-y). For that same period, overall industrial output also went up (+1.6% y-o-y).
Output increased sharply in other manufacturing (+1.5%), in mining, quarrying, energy and water supply (+2.5%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+3.2%), and even more markedly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+13.2%). It increased slightly in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+0.2%). Conversely, output went down and in the manufacture of electrical and electronic equipment (–0.5%).

In May 2015 output increased in other manufacturing (+0.8%)
Output increased in particular in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products (+1.9%), in other manufacturing; repair and installation of machinery and equipment (+0.8%), in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (+1.2%), and in the manufacture of wood and paper products; printing and reproduction of recorded media (+1.1%).
Output increased significantly in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.3%)
Output bounced back sharply in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+4.9% after –6.0%) but declined again in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (–0.6% after –1.4%).
Output improved slightly in electrical and electronic equipment; machine equipment (+0.3%)
Output improved in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+0.8%) and in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+0.2%). It held steady in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c.
Conversely, output declined in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (–0.9%)…
In particular, output declined in the electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply (–1.2%).
…as well as in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–0.5%)
Output decreased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–0.5%), in particular in vegetable and animal oils and fats and in bakery and farinaceous products.
Output declined in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–2.7%)
Output went down in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–2.7%) after a maintenance shutdown of a refinery.
