Oleaginous prices, mainly rape and sunflower, went down noticeably this month (-6.1 %). Their prices were driven down by the strong depreciation of soy, these seeds being partially substituable for each other. The soy crop was very significant in the United States, which is the first producer in the world.
Potato price almost doubled in October compared with the same month last year (+94.3 %), due to a marked shortfall of supply in North-Western Europe. The bad weather in August spoiled practically a fifth of the crop in England and led as well to a substantial deficit of production in the Netherlands and in Belgium. The dry weather in France during September decreased the yields.
Wine price rose in October (+3.3 %), due both to quality wines and other wines.
Price of fresh fruits went up in October year-over-year (+32.4 %). The prices of apple and pear noticeably rose as a result of a sharp decrease in production for these two fruits in Europe.
graphiquevegetable – Producer price of fresh vegetables
Price of fresh vegetables went up year-over-year (+25.1 %). The chilly and rainy weather in October delayed the deliveries of cauliflowers from Brittany and slowed the harvest of leeks ; as a result, the prices of these two vegetables increased. The onion crop, less considerable than last year, drove the price up too.
graphiquepig – Producer prices of pigs ans big cattle
On a seasonally adjusted basis, price of animals went up in October (+0.3 %). Price of pigs rose again this month to increase by almost 20% over three months, reflecting the drop in production in Europe. Price of poultry increased, partly reflecting the rise in intermediate consumptions price, mainly animal feeding stuffs. Price of eggs climbed again (+54.7 % over one year, more than doubling over two years). The European supply was low due to a delay in the implementation of a new standard size for hen houses in some neighbouring countries.
