In October 2011, the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.2%, after a decrease by 0.1% in September. The year-on-year change was +2.3% in October. The price index without tobacco increased also by 0.2% in October 2011 (+2.2% year-on-year).

Adjusted from seasonal variations, the monthly change rose by 0.3% (+2.4% year-on-year).
The increase of CPI of October resulted mainly from the augmentation of prices of footwear and clothes, with the end of summer sales, and from some discounts in food products. The prices of tobacco (2.7%) also rose in October as well as the prices of rents, water supply and refuse collection. This increase was partly compensated by a decrease of the prices of other manufactured products and other services.
Increase of prices of manufactured products
In October 2011, prices of manufactured products increased by 0.2% for seasonal reasons (+0.6% year-on-year).
Prices of food products went up
Prices of food products went up by 0.4% in October 2011 (+3.4% year-on-year). This rise is essentially attributable to the seasonal growth of prices of fresh products (+1.6%; +0.9% year-on-year). The non-alcoholic beverages (+0.4%; +7.5% year-on-year) and meat (+0.1%; +3.8% year on year) also contributed to the prices increase in October.
Prices of services increased slightly
Prices of services increased in October 2011 by 0.1% (+1.4% year-on-year), due to the application of winter rates for collective heat, and due to a seasonal increase of health services prices.

Price of energy products increased moderately
In October 2011, prices of energy products slightly grew (+0.1%). Year-on-year, they were increasing by 11.2%.
Core-inflation was steady
Core-inflation (ISJ) was rising in October 2011 (+1.3% year-on-year). The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) was also rising in October 2011 (+2.5% year-on-year).
