In Q3 2012, the average ILO unemployment rate in metropolitan France and overseas departments stood at 10.3% of the active population.

The unemployment rate increased by 0.1 point in Q3 2012 in metropolitan France
In Q3 2012, the average ILO unemployment rate in metropolitan France and overseas departments stood at 10.3% of the active population.
In metropolitan France only, with 2.8 million unemployed people, 9.9% of the active population was unemployed. The unemployment rate increased by 0.1 point q-o-q after an increase of 0.2 in Q2 2012.
More generally, in metropolitan France, 3.6 million people did not work but would like to work, whether they are available or not for work within two weeks, or whether they look actively for a job or not (see additional indicators on the internet).

ILO employment and activity
The employment rate of the population aged 15-64 years was steady in Q3 2012 and stood at 63.9%.

Permanent contracts increased by 0.2 point in Q3 2012, at 49.1% of the population aged 15-64. This rise comes from the employment rate rise in the population aged 50-64 years, more often in permanent contracts.

Temporary contracts slightly decreased by 0.1 point and stood at 6.6%.
The full time equivalent employment rate was lower by 4 points than the employment rate: it stood at 59.5% on average in Q3 2012.
The activity rate of the 15-64 years increased by 0.3 point, at 71.0%.
Slight decrease in underemployment
In Q3 2012, 5.1% of the persons employed were underemployed, falling by 0.3 point. Slack work slightly decreased at 0.3%.
The unwanted part-time was 4.8% of the employed (see additional indicators on the internet).
