In August, the manufacturing production was stable Industrial production index - August 2010

In August 2010, the manufacturing production was stable in volume. It had increased by 1.2% in July. In the industry, the production was also stable after +0.8% in July. In the last three months (quarter-on-quarter change), the production was almost stable in the manufacturing sector ( 0.1%) and slightly decreased in the industry as a whole (-0.3%).

In August 2010, the manufacturing production was stable in volume. It had increased by 1.2% in July. In the industry, the production was also stable after +0.8% in July.

In the last three months (quarter-on-quarter change), the production was almost stable in the manufacturing sector (–0.1%) and slightly decreased in the industry as a whole (-0.3%).

In the last three months, the manufacturing production was almost stable (-0.1%)…

During the quarter, the production decreased in manufacture of food products and beverages (-1.6%) (q-o-q), in the manufacture of transport equipment (–1.5%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (-4.1%) and in the electrical, electronic equipment and machine equipment (-0.5%). However, it increased in the other manufacturing (+0.8%).

…but exceeded the last year’s level by 4.4%

The manufacturing production rose by 4.4% (y-o-y).

It soared in the “other manufacturing” (+7.6%), in the electrical and electronic equipment and machine equipment (+2.3%) and in the manufacture of transport equipment (+2.3%).

Please note: all the data are adjusted for seasonal variations (SA) and the number of days worked (WDA).

In August, the production increased in the electrical or electronic equipment and the machine equipment (+1.5 %)…

The production rose in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (+2.3 %), in the manufacture of electrical equipment (+1.1%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c. (+0.8%).

…in the manufacture of transport equipment (+0.8 %)

The production rose in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+2.4 %). On the opposite, it decreased in the manufacture of other transport equipment (–0.8 %).

The production was almost stable in the « other manufacturing » (-0.1 %)…

The production decreased in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (-6.6%), and the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (–2.0%), and to a lesser extent in the other manufacturing; repair and installation (-0.3%). It was stable in the basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations and increased in the manufacturing of wood and paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media (+1.2%), the manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (+0.5%) and in the manufacture of rubber and plastics products, and other non-metallic mineral products (+0.8%).

…but decreased in the manufacture of food products and beverages

In August, the production decreased by 2.1% in the manufacture of food products and beverages.

Revisions : -0.2 point in July

The SA-WDA evolution between June and July of the manufacturing production published during the previous campaign was +1.4 %. It has been revised at +1.2 %.

The raw data revisions are due to industries‘ belated answers, especially in the manufacture of machinery and equipment n.e.c., the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products and in the other manufacturing.
