In October, households’ consumption in manufactured goods decreased by 0.7% in volume*, after having increased by 1.6% in August.

Durables: drop in car purchases
In October, expenditures in durables decreased (–1.7%) after a sharp progression in September (+4.7%).
This reversal is imputable to the one of car purchases (–4.4% after +11.3%).
Expenditures in household durables slightly increase dwith respect to September (+0.6%). The shift to numeric TV broadcast of two other “régions” this month had no sizable impact on electronics purchases growth.
Textile-leather: decrease
In October, expenditures in textile decreased by 0.4% after a small increase in September (+0.2%).
Other manufactured goods: slight increase
Expenditures in other manufactured goods are stable in October after a small progression in September (+0.2%). In particular, purchases of books and stationery have slowed down.
September growth of consumption in manufactured goods is scaled up by 0.1 point
The growth of consumption in manufactured goods is now estimated at +1.6% (+1.5% initially announced). The variation of expenditures in durables is upscaled by 0.1 point; car purchases are revised by +0.1 point and those in household durables by +0.1 point. The change in consumption in textile expenditures is not revised. Expenditures in other manufactured goods are upgraded by 0.1 point.
These revisions are mainly due to the update of seasonal and working day adjustment. To a lesser extent, they are explained by new informations on other manufactured goods.
