The unemployment rate was steady in Q2 2015 ILO Unemployment and Labour Market-related indicators (Labour Force Survey results) - 2nd Quarter 2015

In Q2 2015, the average ILO unemployment rate in metropolitan France and overseas departments stood at 10.3% of active population. In metropolitan France only, with 2.9 million people, 10.0% of the active population was unemployed, as in the previous quarter. The unemployment rate decreased among youth and 25-49 years-old and increased for persons aged 50 and over. Over a year, the unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percentage points.

The unemployment rate remained at 10.3% in Q2 2015 in France

In Q2 2015, the average ILO unemployment rate in metropolitan France and overseas departments stood at 10.3% of active population. In metropolitan France only, with 2.9 million people, 10.0% of the active population was unemployed, as in the previous quarter. The unemployment rate decreased among youth and 25-49 years-old and increased for persons aged 50 and over. Over a year, the unemployment rate increased by 0.3 percentage points.

Slight down in the unemployment halo over Q1 2015

In metropolitan France, among inactive people, 1.5 million wish to work but they are not considered as unemployed according to the ILO definition: they are part of the halo around unemployment. The number of people in this unemployment halo decreased q-o-q (–12,000) in Q2 2015. It rose by 126,000 persons over a year.

Stability of employment rate and slight increase in activity rate

The employment rate of the population aged 15-64 years stood at 64.2% in Q2 2015, as in the previous quarter. It decreased by 0.1 percentage points over the year.

Permanent contracts employment rate stood at 48.7% in Q2 2015. It decreased by –0.1 percentage points quarter-on-quarter, and by 0.5 percentage points year-on-year. Temporary contracts employment rate increased (+0.2 percentage points q-o-q), standing at at 7.2%.

The activity rate of people aged 15-64 stood at 71.4% in Q2 2015. It increased by 0.1 percentage points quarter-on-quarter, and year-on-year.

Underemployment increased slightly

In Q2 2015, 6.6% of the employed persons were underemployed, increasing by 0.1 percentage points over the quarter. It mainly concerns people who have a part-time job and wish to work more. Slack work stood at 0.3% of the employed, rising slightly this quarter.
