The Lifelong Learning 2022 survey is the reissue of the Adult Education Survey (AES), which is completed by a skills module inspired by the previous Information and Daily Life surveys (IVQ).

The survey aims to measure and characterize on the one hand the participation of adults in education and training, according to concepts defined at European level, and on the other hand the skills of adults in situations of everyday life (writing, calculation, use of internet).

The training part makes it possible, among other things, to describe the training courses followed (level, field, duration, etc.) and the profile of the people who benefit from them. It also allows you to know the difficulties encountered in accessing training or the reasons for not taking it.

The part on skills focuses above all on assessing reading and writing skills in everyday gestures of personal and professional life.

Sociodemographic variables (age, sex, diploma, situation on the labor market, etc.) make it possible to carry out studies differentiated by public.

The "training" part of the survey, which forms the main part of the survey, is a continuation of the adult education surveys of 2006, 2012 and 2016. This part of the survey is based, like the editions of 2012 and 2016, on a european regulation which specifies the variables to be transmitted to Eurostat, but also the collection period, the scope of the survey and the minimum precision required for some indicators.

The "skills" part of the survey consists of two modules. The "Daily life skills" module, inspired by the IVQ survey, aims to assess adults' skills in reading, comprehension, writing and numeracy in everyday life situations. It complements the international PIAAC system to measure situations of illiteracy. The "Internet Use" module aims to assess Internet use in everyday life processes.
