Household projections

In addition to population projections (which take into account the size and structure of the population), household projections also take into account the way in which households are structured. Changes in cohabitation patterns are another key to understanding many social issues: housing, home support for the elderly, young people moving out of their family home, household size, the phenomenon of decohabitation (one-parent families and single people versus couples).

INSEE carries out household projections after each demographic projection exercise. The interval between two exercises is approximately 5 years. The most recent household projection exercise has a projection period of 2018-2050.
