Définition

The French Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (OFDT) is a public interest body established in 1993. Its purpose is to collect and analyse data relating to both legal and illegal substances and the consequences of their use: the products concerned, the profile of those who use them, the health-related and social implications of this use, etc.

The OFDT considers epidemiological as well as demographic aspects of the issue, and thus contributes to the decision-making process of public authorities, by helping them to anticipate developments in the health-related and social damage caused by the use of legal and illegal psychoactive substances, and the dependency which results from this use.

The French Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, like its partner institutions in other EU member states and Norway, is a branch of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), based in Lisbon.
