The Classification of Individual Consumption by Purpose (COICOP) is one of the "functional" classifications of the National accounts system (SCN).
It is used to classify transactions made between producers and the institutional sector of households.
It allows to know the expenses which households dedicate to food and non-alcoholic beverages, to health, to education services, etc.
The latest version built by the UN dates from 2018. It is declined at European level in eCoicopV2 and is used to calculate the CPI and HICP from 2026.
