Définition
The household reference person is determined by taking into account activity, having a spouse, having a child and age.
Among the permanent members of the household, the reference person is, if he or she is the only one, the active person with a spouse, otherwise the oldest active person with a spouse.
If there is no active person with a spouse, the oldest person with a spouse.
If there is no person with a spouse, the oldest active person with a child.
If there is no active person with a child, the oldest active person.
If there is no active person, the oldest person with a child.
If there is no person with a child, the oldest person.
Until the 2015 population census, the rule for determining the household reference person is as follows:
- If the household includes one or more families with at least one containing a couple, the reference person is:
if there is/are a man/men inside these couples, the oldest active man or, failing that, the oldest man;
if there is no man inside these couples, the oldest active woman among these couples, or failing that, the oldest woman.
- If the household does not include any family including a couple but includes at least a one-parent family, then the reference person is:
if there are men among parents of the single parent families, the oldest active man or, failing that, the oldest man;
if there is no man among these parents, the oldest active woman or, failing that, the oldest woman.
- If the household includes no family, the reference person is, among the people of the household except housed inmates or employees, the oldest active person or, failing that, the oldest person.
