INSEE and official statistics
Dernière mise à jour le : 12/06/2020

The mission of the General Inspectorate is to promote the implementation of INSEE's strategic orientations by controlling its main risks.

The Head of the General Inspectorate must alert the General Director and the Executive Committee to any concerns about the proper functioning of official statistics, in particular about INSEE's maintaining a high level of quality and efficiency.

The General Inspectorate carries out assessments, inspections and audits on the studies, the functioning and the organisation of INSEE's central and regional services. It includes prospective missions.

It may share some missions with other General Inspectorates (Finances, Social issues, Education, ...).

The General Inspectorate may intervene at the request of the Official Statistics Authority, which may mandate it on behalf of French official statistics in general.

Finally, the members of the General Inspectorate of INSEE may carry out activities in their individual capacity, such as chairing certain committees, being chairman of selection juries, being a member of scientific committees, etc.
