In December 2024, the volume of sales in trade increased over a month by 0.2% (after +0.1% in November).

In December 2024, the increase in sales volume was concentrated in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles

In December 2024*, the volume of sales in wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles accelerated over a month (+0.8% after +0,3%), driven mainly by the sharp rebound in the wholesale of household goods (+3.1% after ‑0.8%).

The volume of sales fell back in retail trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑0.6% after +0.1%). It was stable in non‑specialised stores (after +0.2%), it fell back in specialised stores (‑0.9% after +0.2%) and it decreased again in trade not in stores (‑0.8% after ‑0.6%). Within specialised stores, the volume of sales went down across all sub-sectors, particularly in “other household equipment (sales of furniture, appliances, hardware, etc.)” (‑2.3% after +1.1%) and automotive fuel sales (‑1.5% after +0.3%).

Lastly, the volume of sales decreased again in the wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑0.2% after ‑0.4%), due mainly to the decline in the sale of motor vehicle parts and accessories (‑1.7% after +0.3%).

The volume of sales of the fourth quarter of 2024 went down by 0.7% over a year

The volume of sales of the fourth quarter of 2024 in overall trade was 0.7% lower than that of the same period a year earlier. It decreased sharply in the trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑4.9%) and more moderately in the wholesale trade except that of motor vehicles and motorcycles (‑1.0%).
