The balance of opinion related to the ordering intentions has sharply increased
In January 2024, the balance of opinion on the ordering intentions has increased sharply, as well as the one related to the past sales. Both balances have moved above their long-term average. The one on the expected sales is stable, below its own. The balance on the general business outlook is almost stable, above its average.
Concerning the workforce size, the balance of opinion associated with the expected change in the workforce size has slightly retreated, while the one related to its recent change has grown again. Both of them remain yet below their long-term average.
The balance of opinion associated with the current level of stocks is stable and remains well above its own. The bimonthly balance on the cash position has sharply rebounded for its part, while remaining below its long-term average. Finally, the business managers are less numerous than in the previous month to consider that the evolution of their business situation is difficult to forecast.

In January 2024, the balance of opinion on the expected prices has sharply retreated and the bimonthly balance on the past selling prices has diminished again. Both balances, decreasing almost continuously since April 2023, remain yet slightly above their long-term average.

The business managers are more positive on their recent activity in retail trade (excluding motor vehicles) than in trade and repair of motor vehicles
In January 2024, the balance of opinion on the past sales as well as the one on the ordering intentions have sharply increased again in retail trade (excluding motor vehicles) and have moved above their respective average; conversely, in trade and repair of motor vehicles, they have decreased again and have moved away from their average.
The balance on the expected selling prices has sharply diminished in retail trade (excluding motor vehicles) but remains yet well above its long-term average. In trade and repair of motor vehicles, it is stable and slightly below its own.
Finally, the balance on the expected change in the workforce size has retreated in trade and repair of motor vehicles and has moved below its long-term average. In retail trade (excluding motor vehicles), it is stable and remains below its own.
