Over a month, output went down in most service sectors

In October 2023, output decreased markedly in real estate activities (‑2.1% after +1.4%) and more moderately in information-communication (‑0.5% after +1.0%), professional, scientific and technical activities (‑0.2% after +0.4%) and accommodation and food service activities (‑0.5% after +0.6%). It was down again in arts, entertainment and recreation (‑4.2% after ‑2.5%) and administrative and support service activities (‑0.3% after ‑0.4%). On the contrary, it bounced back in transportation and storage (+1.6% after ‑1.0%), particularly in air transport (+11.2% after ‑3.0%).

Over a year, output in services was up by 1.4%

Output for the last three months (August to October 2023) was 1.4% higher than the same three months a year earlier. It increased markedly in information-communication (+5.2%), where five of the six sub-sectors were up significantly. It also increased in administrative and support service activities (+1.9%), accommodation and food service activities (+2.4%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+3.8%) and professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.4%). On the contrary, it declined in transportation and storage (‑2.8%) and real estate activities (‑2.2%).

Revisions

The monthly change in the services production index in September 2023 has been revised downwards by 0.1 points (after rounding), to +0.1%.
