In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are seasonally and working-day adjusted (SA-WDA).

In June 2023, output in services fell over one month (‑0.5%) after a marked increase in May (+1.9%).

Over a month, output fell or slowed down in most sectors

In June 2023, output fell back in administrative and support service activities (-3.0% after +3.4%), where all sub-sectors were in decline, and in transportation and storage (-2.5% after +2.6%), in particular land transport (-3.9% after +3.0%). Output fell again in real estate activities (-2.0% after -3.4%). Conversely, it continued to rise but slowed down in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.6% after +1.3%), accommodation and food service activities (+1.4% after +2.6%), information-communication (+0.7% after +2.8%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+1.0% after +1.9%).

Over a year, output was up markedly (+4.0%)

Output for the second quarter of 2023 was 4.0% higher compared to the same quarter of 2022. It increased markedly in information-communication (+10.1%), particularly in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+12.2%), and in arts, entertainment and recreation (+12.3%), mainly due to sports-related activities. It was up significantly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+3.0%), administrative and support service activities (+3.3%) and accommodation and food service activities (+3.1%). Output also increased, but more slightly, in transportation and storage (+0.4%). Conversely, it declined in real estate activities (-3.8%).

Revisions

Compared to the previous release, the month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in May 2023 has been revised downward by 0.1 points (+1.9% instead of +2.0% after rounding).
