Cereal prices fell over a month and slowed down year on year
In November 2022, cereal prices fell sharply over one month (-5.4% after 0.0% in October). This drop reflected that of soft wheat prices (-5.2% after +0.1%), due in particular to the appreciation of the euro against the dollar and the extension of the agreement facilitating exports from Ukraine. Maize prices also fell (-7.5% after -1.0%) in a context where demand remained sluggish due in particular to avian flu. Year on year, cereal prices decelerated strongly, but continued to rise sharply (+12.4% after +26.2%). Compared to November 2019, they have almost doubled (+88.2%).
Oil seed prices also fell in November 2022 (-2.2% over one month after +5.7%), driven down by sunflower (-2.4% after +10.5%) and rapeseed (-2.3% after +5.5%) prices in a context of concerns about the global economic outlook, while soybean prices recovered (+0.7% after -8.1%). Year on year, oil seed prices fell (-8.1% after -2.9%). Since November 2019, they have risen nevertheless by 63.0%.

Year on year, fresh fruit prices fell again, while fresh vegetable prices continued to rise
Year on year, fresh fruit prices went down again, albeit at a less pronounced rate than in October (-2.1% in November after -9.5% in October and -15.0% in September). Walnut prices (-11.4% after -8.6%) fell more than those of clementines (-0.9%), while apple prices rebounded (+2.3% after -2.7%). Compared to November 2019, fresh fruit prices were up by 16.9%.
Fresh vegetable prices decelerated sharply year on year while remaining on a strong upward trend (+14.2% in November after +34.3% in October and +40.1% in September). This slowdown was due in particular to the fall of cauliflower prices (-35.2% after +86.2%) and to the deceleration of tomato (+6.5% after +64.0%), leek (+18.3% after +52.5%) and salad (+20.4% after +30.3%) prices. The rise of carrot prices was almost identical to that of October (+49.3% after +48.3%) and endive prices accelerated (+51.7% after +44.7%). In November 2022, fresh vegetable prices remained very close to their November 2019 level (+4.4%).

Animal prices fell over one month and decelerated year on year
In November 2022, animal prices fell over one month (-1.3% after +1.8%), due in particular to the fall of pig prices (-6.7% after +4.3%) and the slowdown of large cattle prices (+0.1% after +1.9%); poultry prices recovered (+0.4% after -0.1%).
Year on year, animal prices slowed down slightly in November 2022 (+28.7% after +32.1% in October). Pig prices slowed down (+47.4% after +57.2%), as did those for large cattle (+29.6% after +32.8%). Poultry prices rose at the same rate as in October (+25.0%). In November 2022, animal prices were 33.4% higher than in November 2019.

For further information
The index of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the change in product prices when the products are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2015. The weight-coefficients of fresh fruit and vegetables change every month so that they reflect their seasonal pattern. Their variations should therefore be interpreted only year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production (IPPIAP) reflects the price evolution of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonally adjusted.
Further informations (including IPPAP and IPPIAP methodologies) are available through the “Documentation" tab on the web page of this publication.
