In Q3 2022, production costs in construction rose by 1.6% Costs of production indices in construction - third quarter 2022
In Q3 2022, the production costs in construction rose by 1.6% over a quarter, after +3.4% in the previous quarter. They slowed down in specialized construction works (+2.0% after +2.7%) and in buildings construction (+1.6% after +3.3%). They went down slightly in civil engineering (-0.3% after +6.7%). This was due to a sharp slowdown in costs of material in buildings construction (+1.0% after +6.7%) and by a fall of costs of material in civil engineering (-4.5% after +13.9%), owing to a sharp decrease of the petroleum bitumen prices over the quarter.
Year on year, the production costs for construction rose by 9.4% in Q3 2022 (after +10.2% in the previous quarter). They slowed down considerably in civil engineering (+14.2% after +18.3%) and in buildings construction (+9.0% after +9.9%) and, to a lesser extent, in specialized construction works (+8.3% after +8.4%).
From this publication onwards, heavy fuel is no longer taken into account in the energy item of the producer cost index in civil engineering. It is replaced by diesel fuel excluding tax which approximates the marine diesel (used, for example, in large-scale marine dredging) and by wholesale of gas on spot markets (used, for example, in produce of mixes). This updating is applied from August 2021 indices.
