Cereal prices rebounded over a month but slowed down year on year
In September 2022, cereal prices recovered over one month (+2.7% after -1.1% in August). This rebound was due to the rise of soft wheat prices (+3.0% after -2.7%), due in particular to concerns about the continuation of Ukrainian exports and uncertain prospects with respect to Russian and Ukrainian harvests given that the conflict is protracted. Maize prices slowed down (+2.9% after +5.7%) amid fears of a world economic recession and disappointing harvests in the European Union and the United States. Year on year, cereal prices slowed down, but continued to rise sharply (+37.3% after +40.1%). They have more than doubled since September 2019 (+111.2%).
Oilseed prices continued to go down in September 2022 (-5.4% over one month after -3.2%), driven by sunflower (-8.4% after -0.8%) and rapeseed (-5.1% after -4.3%) prices, while soybean prices decelerated (+1.3% after +5.2%). Year on year, oilseed prices slowed down significantly (+1.8% after +14.7%). Since September 2019, they rose by 60.5%.

More about French agricultural price indices
The index of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the change in product prices when the products are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2015. The weight-coefficients of fresh fruit and vegetables change every month so that they reflect their seasonal pattern. Their variations should therefore be interpreted only year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production (IPPIAP) reflects the price evolution of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonally adjusted.
The methodology of IPPAP and the methodology of IPPIAP are available on the Insee web site.
