In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

Output in services accelerated in June 2022 (+1.7% after +0.7% in May).

In June 2022, output increased in a majority of sectors

In June 2022, output rebounded in professional, scientific and technical activities (+2.6% after −1.8%) and in information-communication (+2.0% after −0.7%). Real estate activities (+2.1% after near stability in May at −0.1%), administrative and support services activities (+0.9% after +0.2%), transportation and storage (+1.3% after +2.0%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+2.6% after +7.4%) were up too. On the contrary, output fell slightly in accommodation and food services activities (−0.3% after a sharp increase of 9.1% in May).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+16.5%)

Due mainly to the base effect of the third national lockdown from 3 April to 2 May 2021 and the persistent restrictions until June 2021 on part of the cultural and food service activities, services output of the second quarter 2022 was 16.5% higher than the same quarter a year earlier.

Output was up sharply year-on-year in accommodation and food service activities (+80.0%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+104.3%). It increased strongly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+9.1%), administrative and support services activities (+11.1%), transportation and storage (+12.7%, with a sharp increase in air transport: +56.7%) and information-communication (+8.7%). Growth was more moderate in real estate activities (+6.2%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in May 2022 has been revised downwards. Initially published at +0.8%, it is now evaluated at +0.7% after accounting for rounding.
