All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

Output in services increased in May 2022 (+0.8%) after a near stability in April (−0.1%).

In May 2022, a sharp increase in accommodation and food services activities

In May 2022, output accelerated significantly in accommodation and food services activities (+8.6% after +2.4%), particularly in food and beverage services activities (+10.4% after +1.0%). It rebounded in arts, entertainment and recreation (+6.5% after −8.1%) and transportation and storage (+2.1% after −2.1%). It increased slightly in administrative and support services activities (+0.2% after 0.0%) and real estate activities (+0.3% after 0.0%). On the contrary, output declined in the professional, scientific and technical activities (−1.5% after +1.6%) and in the information-communication sector (−0.8% after −0.1%).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+18.2%)

Due in particular to a base effect linked to the persistent restrictions at the beginning of 2021 on a part of cultural and food service activities, then the third national lockdown from 3 April to 2 May 2021, the services output of the last three months (from March to May 2022) was 18.2% higher than the same period of 2021.

Output increased sharply year-on-year in accommodation and food service activities (+129.9%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+122.7%). It increased strongly in specialized, scientific and technical activities (+9.1%), transportation and storage (+13.8% with a marked improvement in air transport:+69.8%), administrative and support services activities (+10.8%), and information-communication (+8.6%). Growth was more moderate in real estate activities (+6.3%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in April 2022 is unchanged at −0.1%.
