Industrial raw material prices declined significantly
Prices in euros of industrial raw materials fell again in May, more strongly than in April (−9.1% after −1.7%), in the wake of those of mineral materials (−10.0% after −1.1%): the prices of non-ferrous metals (−10.3% after −2.7%) and precious metals (−4.5% after −0.5%) went down for the second month in a row, while those of ferrous metals sharply fell back (−10.9% after +1.6%).
Prices of agro-industrial raw materials also decreased again (−3.8% after −5.1%), due in particular to those of sawn softwood which continued to tumble (−15.8% after −17.8%). Prices for rubber (−2.5% after −0.6%) and tropical woods (−1.6% after +0.1%) also fell. On the other hand, prices for natural textile fibres remained very dynamic (+7.4% after +9.7%), and those for paper pulp (+2.1% after +1.9%) and hides (+1.6% after +1.8%) continued to increase.
