All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

In February 2022, output in services recovered strongly (+2.6%), following a decline in January (–1.2%).

In February 2022, output bounced back in most services

In February 2022, output rebounded significantly in professional, scientific and technical activities (+3.4% after –0.9%), administrative and support services activities (+4.2% after –0.6%), and more strongly in accommodation and food service activities (+7.9% after a 6.9% decline alongside the fifth epidemic wave of Covid-19). The rebound was more moderate in transportation and storage (+1.1% after –1.1%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (+1.1% after –3.5%). Output sped up in real estate activities (+2.5% after +0.3%). It was almost stable in information-communication (–0.1% as in January).

Over a year, output was up sharply (+15.6%)

With a base effect due to the last weeks of the second lockdown from 29 October to 15 December 2020, followed by persistent restrictions at the beginning of 2021 on a part of cultural and food service activities, the services output of the last three months (December to February) was 15.6% higher than that of the same period a year earlier.

Output increased sharply year-on-year in accommodation and food service activities (+112.7%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+83.5%), professional, scientific and technical activities (+9.3%), transportation and storage (+14.1% with a marked improvement in air transport:+73.4%), administrative and support services activities (+8.8%), and information-communication (+8.9%). Growth was more moderate in real estate activities (+2.9%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in January 2022 has been revised upwards. Initially published at –1.6%, it is now evaluated at –1.2% after accounting for rounding.
