In February 2022, manufacturing turnover went up slightly (+0.3%) Turnover in industry and construction - February 2022
In February 2022, turnover went up slightly in the manufacturing industry (+0.3% after +0.6% in January); it also increased in industry as a whole (+0.7% after +2.2% in January).
Export turnover fell back in February (–7.1% after +4.4% in January).
In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.
All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).
In February 2022, turnover went up slightly in the manufacturing industry (+0.3% after +0.6% in January); it also increased in industry as a whole (+0.7% after +2.2% in January).
Export turnover fell back in February (–7.1% after +4.4% in January).
In February 2022, turnover increased in all sectors except in the manufacture of transport equipment
In February, turnover increased in almost all sectors. It went up sharply in “other manufacturing” (+1.3% after –0.1% in January), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.9% after a stability) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+1.7% after +2.2% in January). Turnover also went up in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+0.6% after +5.5%) and rose sharply again in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+2.0% after +7.5% in January). Conversely, turnover fell back strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (–6.6% after +1.0% in January).

Turnover in the manufacturing industry went up sharply over a year (+14.0%), with significant price rises
Mainly as a result of the soaring producer prices, the turnover of the last three months rose sharply compared to the same three months of the previous year, in the manufacturing industry (+14.0%), and even more in industry as a whole (+21.1%). The increase was observed in all major sectors, albeit with a variable magnitude that primarily reflects the dispersion of price rises. The increase over a year was particularly pronounced in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+51.2%), in “other manufacturing” (+15.1%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+70.0%). The increase was also pronounced in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+9.4%), in the manufacture of transport equipment (+8.8%) and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+7.9%).
The fastest growing subsectors were electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+64.9%) and the manufacture of other transport equipment (21.2%); only the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers went down (–2.9%).
Revisions
The percentage change of the turnover index in January 2022 in the manufacturing industry was revised upwards at 0.6% instead of 0.3% in the previous publication; it was revised upwards at +2.2% instead of +1.7% for industry as a whole. The variation of the raw serie was due in particular to the integration of late or rectified declarations.
