graphiqueTotal consumption of goods

- Source: INSEE
Engineered goods: clear rebound
The consumption of engineered goods recovered clearly in February (+2.2% after -2.9% in January). This increase is explained by the strong rebound of consumption in clothing and textiles (+10.5% after -15.0%), and to a lesser extent by the increase in consumption of durable goods (+0.9% after +0.3%). Consumption of "other engineered goods" fell slightly (-0.6% after +0.1%).
Durables: rise
Consumption of durable goods continued to rise (+0.9% after +0.3%). This increase is due to the clear rebound in purchases of jewelry, eyewear and watches. It is also explained by the increase in consumption of transport equipment (+0.9% after -0.1%), and in particular by the recovery in purchases of new cars. Conversely, consumption of housing equipment fell sharply (-1.3% after +2.1%), with a drop in purchases of cell phones and household appliances.
Textile-clothing: very strong rebound
Spending on clothing and textiles rebounded strongly in February after a fall in January (+10.5% after -15.0%). This increase is mainly due to the recovery in purchases of ready-to-wear clothing, as well as leather and shoes.
Other engineered goods: slight decline
Consumption of "other manufactured goods" fell slightly (-0.6% after +0.1%). This decrease is due in particular to the drop in purchases of Covid-19 self-tests.
