In Q4 2021, the production costs in construction rose by 1.2% over a quarter, after +2.3% in the previous quarter. They slowed down both in specialized construction works (+1.0% after +2.1%), in civil engineering (+2.1% after +3.2%) and in buildings construction (+1.0% after +2.5%). This deceleration was mainly due to the decrease in labour costs and the slowdown of material costs, especially steel products.

Year on year, the production costs for construction rose by +6.1% in Q4 2021 (after +4.2% in the previous quarter). They sped up in specialized construction works (+4.9% after +3.5%), in buildings construction (+6.2% after +4.9%) and at a more marked pace in civil engineering (+11.3% after +7.2%).

Revision

Compared to the previous publication (dating from December 2021), the percentage change of producer costs in construction for the third quarter of 2021 is left unchanged at +2.3%.

These indices aggregate the cost indices of six factors of production, four of which are commented here (equipment, labour, energy and materials) and account for more than 8/9 in the calculation of the producer costs in construction.
