Increase in turnover over a year (+6.1%)
The turnover of the past three months (November 2021 to January 2022) in large-scale food retailing increased (+6.1%) when compared with the same period one year earlier. The sales decreased in food products (−0.6%). By contrast, they increased in non-food products (+5.0%), with a base effect due to supermarkets and hypermarkets being ordered not to sell ''non-essential'' goods during the second lockdown, from 29 October to 15 December 2020. The sales of automotive fuel grew very strongly (+53.0%), partly due to the same base effect related to the second lockdown and, partly, to the rise in prices.
Year on year, the sales from November 2021 to January 2022 went up both in supermarkets (+5.9%) and hypermarkets (+7.8%).
