In December 2021, manufacturing turnover continued to increase (+2.3%) Turnover in industry and construction - December 2021
In December 2021, turnover continued to increase in the manufacturing industry (+2.3% after +2.7% in November), as in industry as a whole (+1.9% after +3.9% in November).
Export turnover kept rising in December (+2.0% after +5.3% in November).
In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.
All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).
The variation of the raw serie was due in particular to the integration of late or rectified declarations.
In December 2021, turnover continued to increase in the manufacturing industry (+2.3% after +2.7% in November), as in industry as a whole (+1.9% after +3.9% in November).
Export turnover kept rising in December (+2.0% after +5.3% in November).
In December 2021, turnover increased mainly in “other manufacturing” and in the manufacture of transport equipment
In December, turnover increased sharply in “other manufacturing” (+2.6% after +2.5% in November) and went up strongly again in the manufacture of transport equipment (+8.0% after –6.0% in November), both in the manufacture of other transport equipment (+8.8% after +6.5%) and in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+7.2% after +5.4%). Turnover also increased in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+1.6% after +0.2% in November). Conversely, turnover fell back in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (–1.1% after +1.4%) and in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–0.5% after +2.8%). Finally, turnover was up slightly in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+0.4% after +8.1% in November).

Turnover in the manufacturing industry went up sharply over a year (+11.1%)
Industry turnover over the fourth quarter went up strongly compared to that of the fourth quarter of the 2020 year (+11.1% for the manufacturing industry, +16.1% for the whole industry). The growth was particularly pronounced in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+37.3%), in “other manufacturing” (+14.8%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+75.8%), with significant price effects. The increase was also pronounced in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+8.9%) and the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+5.4%). Conversely, turnover declined sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (–5.5%).
Revisions
The percentage change of the turnover index in November 2021 in the manufacturing industry was revised upwards at 2.7% instead of 2.1% in the previous publication; it was revised upwards strongly at +3.9% instead of +2.9% for industry as a whole. This revision is mainly due to late responses from enterprises.
