In October 2021, manufacturing turnover fell back slightly (–0.4%) Turnover in industry and construction - October 2021
In October 2021, turnover fell back slightly in the manufacturing industry (–0.4% after +0.4% in September), and was stable in industry as a whole (after +1.0% in September).
Export turnover declined sharply (–2.8% after +2.2% in September).
In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.
All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).
The SA-WDA serie of the 30.30 « Manufacture of air and spacecraft and related machinery » (which is included in the CL2 aggregate – manufacture of other transport equipment) was strongly revised with this release following the adjustment of the SA-WDA correction model. The perspective is now sufficient to better take into account the change in the profile of the raw series from the start of the health crisis and thus improve the quality of the SA-WDA adjustment, even if the profile of this series remained volatile. Average annual changes were however very little modified. Due to the weight of this activity, revisions in manufacturing and industry as a whole were also larger than usual.
In October 2021, turnover fell back slightly in the manufacturing industry (–0.4% after +0.4% in September), and was stable in industry as a whole (after +1.0% in September).
Export turnover declined sharply (–2.8% after +2.2% in September).
In October 2021, turnover continued to fall in transport equipment
In October, turnover decreased again in the manufacture of transport equipment (–3.7% after –3.0% in September) and fell back in the manufacture of food products and beverages (–0.9% after +0.6%) and more slightly in “other manufacturing” (–0.2% after +1.1%). Conversely, turnover went up sharply again in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+1.8% after +3.3% in September). It bounced back in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+0.7% after –0.1% in September) and continued to increase strongly in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+4.8% after +3.9% in September).

Turnover in the manufacturing industry went up sharply over a year (+9.6%)
Industry turnover over the last three months under review (August to October) went up very strongly compared to that of the corresponding three months of the 2020 year (+9.6% for the manufacturing industry, +12.3% for the whole industry). The growth was particularly pronounced in “other manufacturing” (+14.1%), in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+23.7%) and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (+63.1%), with significant price effects in some sectors. The increase was also pronounced in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+7.1%) and the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+6.7%). Conversely, turnover declined sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (–9.1%).
Revisions
The percentage change of the turnover index in September 2021 in the manufacturing industry was revised sharply downwards at +0.4% instead of +2.6%, due in particular to the adjustment of the SA-WDA model of the series Manufacture of air and spacecraft (see warning); it was revised strongly downwards at +1.0% instead of +2.6% for industry as a whole.
