In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the services production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.

All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).

In October 2021, output in services fell back (–0.6% after +0.3%).

In October 2021, a decline in output concentrated on a minority of sectors

In October 2021, output declined sharply in real estate activities (–6.3% after +3.6%), information-communication (–2.9% after +0.7%) and arts, entertainment and recreation (–8.5% after +6.2%). Conversely, output bounced back in transportation and storage (+2.9% after –3.9%), particularly in air transport (+24.1% after –19.5%), probably due to the reopening of some destinations - subject to conditions. It accelerated in administrative and support services activities (+1.5% after +0.1%) with a sharp rebound in employment activities (+3.7% after –0.6%), slowed down in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.7% after +1.4%), and rebounded slightly in accommodation and food service activities (+0.5% after –3.1%).

Over a year, output was up (+9.6%)

Output in the last three months was 9.6% higher than in the same period in 2020.

Output was thus up sharply year-on-year in professional, scientific and technical activities (+9.2%), administrative and support services activities (+9.7%) and accommodation and food service activities (+19.5%), for the latter activity due to the local closure measures taken against pubs from October 2020. It was also up in transportation and storage (+7.2%), information -communication (+8.7%), arts, entertainment and recreation (+22.9%) and real estate activities (+2.6%).

Revisions

The month-on-month percentage change in the index of services output in June 2021 has been revised upwards. Initially published at 0.0%, it is now evaluated at +0.3% after accounting for rounding.
