In November 2021, the price of oil in euros fell back (−1.4% after +13.8% in October). The prices in euros of imported raw materials (excluding energy) edged down (−0.6% after +3.3%) under the effect of the drop of industrial raw material prices (−4.7% after +4.5%). The prices of food commodities, on their side, remained on the rise (+2.4% after +2.5%).

Oil prices fell back

In November 2021, the price of North Sea crude oil (Brent) in dollars declined (−3.0% after +12.1%) to an average of $81.0. In euro terms, the downturn in the price per barrel is of lesser extent (−1.4% after +13.8%) due to exchange rate variations.

Industrial prices went back downwards

In November 2021, the prices in euros of industrial raw materials started to fall again (−4.7% after +4.5% in October) under the effect of the sharp decrease of mineral material prices (−6.2% after +4.5%): the prices of ferrous metals tumbled again (−19.6% after −0.1% in October and −22.5% in September) and those of non-ferrous metals declined (−3.5% after +6.3%). On the other hand, precious metal prices accelerated (+4.3% after +1.3%).

Prices of agro-industrial raw materials slowed down (+1.3% after +4.7%), in the wake of the prices of sawn softwood (+3.0% after +16.6%), natural rubber (+2.4% after +8.4%) and to a lesser extent those of natural textile fibres (+8.7% after +13.2%). While hide prices continued to rise (+1.6% after +1.9%), wood pulp prices fell again (−1.6% after −3.1%). Finally, prices for tropical woods remained stable (−0.1% after +1.2%).

Food commodity prices kept rising

Prices in euros of imported food commodities increased again in November (+2.4% after +2.5% in October). Tropical commodity prices accelerated (+6.1% after +5.3%), as well as cereal prices (+5.4% after +3.8%) and those of oilseeds (+2.8% after +1.9%). Seafood prices rebounded (+4.5% after −2.5%) and sugar prices slowed down slightly (+2.2% after +3.3%). Only meat prices retreated (−4.9% after +3.8%).
