In September 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing remained almost unchanged (+0.1%) after a slight fall in August (−0.4%). The turnover decreased in food products (−0.6% after +0.8%), while it bounced back both in non-food products (+1.3% after −1.7%) and automotive fuel (+3.8% after −3.2%).
The turnover was stable in supermarkets, after a 1.1% rise in August, while it bounced back in hypermarkets (+0.6% after −1.5%).
In September 2021, a virtual stability of large-scale food retailing turnover
In September 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing remained almost unchanged (+0.1%) after a slight fall in August (−0.4%). The turnover decreased in food products (−0.6% after +0.8%), while it bounced back both in non-food products (+1.3% after −1.7%) and automotive fuel (+3.8% after −3.2%).
The turnover was stable in supermarkets, after a 1.1% rise in August, while it bounced back in hypermarkets (+0.6% after −1.5%).
Increase in turnover over a year (+2.4%)
The turnover of the third quarter of 2021 in large-scale food retailing increased (+2.4%) when compared with that of the third quarter of 2020. While the sales decreased both in food products (−0.9%) and non-food products (−2.3%), they grew very strongly in automotive fuel (+22.6%).
Year on year, sales over the third quarter of 2021 grew both in supermarkets (+3.4%) and - albeit more moderately - in hypermarkets (+1.7%).
