In Q2 2021, services producer prices rose by 0.9% Services producer price indices - second quarter 2021
In the second quarter of 2021, producer prices of services accelerated (+0.9% after +0.5% in the previous quarter). The prices of services sold to home businesses were back on the rise (+0.6% after +0.1%), as those of services sold to households in France (+0.8% after +0.1%), while the prices of exported services rose strongly again (+3.5% after +3.2%). Year on year, producer prices of services kept accelerating (+1.7% after +0.9% and +0.5%).

The prices of services sold to home businesses were back on the rise (+0.6% after +0.1%), as those of services sold to households in France (+0.8% after +0.1%), while the prices of exported services rose strongly again (+3.5% after +3.2%). In the second quarter of 2021, producer prices of services sold to home businesses rose by 0.6% after two quarters of stability. Year on year, they accelerated (+1.0% after +0.3%).

Seasonal rise in prices for information and communication services and for accommodation and food service activities
In the second quarter of 2021, prices for information and communication services, as those for accommodation and food service activities, returned to their seasonal growth pattern (after the exception of the second quarter of 2020 due to the impact of the first lockdown).
Prices for information and communication services rebounded in the second quarter of 2021 (+0.8% after –0.8%). They were mainly driven up by the strong rebound in prices for programming and broadcasting services (+13.5% after –9.2%). Those for data processing, hosting and related services and web portals services also recovered (+1.9% after –2.4%). Year on year, prices for information and communication services rebounded (+0.7% after –0.7%)
Prices for accommodation and food service activities also rose in the second quarter of 2021 (+1.6% after a stability), mainly due to the seasonal rebound of those for hotel and similar accommodation services (+7.9% after –2.1%). Year on year, prices for accommodation and food service activities rebounded (+1.5% after –2.2%).
Slight rise in prices for professional, scientific and technical activities and for real estate activities
Prices for professional, scientific and technical activities rose slightly in the second quarter of 2021 (+0.3% after +0.1%). Prices for media representation services rebounded in accordance with the usual seasonal pattern (+11.6% after –9.7%), while those for legal and accounting services fell back (–0.5% after +0.4%). Year on year, prices for professional, scientific and technical activities accelerated a little (+0.8% after +0.5%).
Prices for real estate activities recovered slightly in the second quarter of 2021 (+0.5% after –0.2%), driven up by the rebound of those for renting and operating services of own or leased real estate (+0.6% after –0.2%). Year on year, prices for real estate activities accelerated (+1.2% after +0.5%).
Slowdown in prices for transportation and storage services and for administrative and support service activities
Prices for transportation and storage services decelerated in the second quarter of 2021 (+0.5% after +1.2%). The strong rebound in prices for land transport services and transport services via pipelines (+1.5% after –0.3%) was partly counterbalanced by the downturn in prices for warehousing and support services for transportation (–0.5% after +2.3%). Year on year, prices for transportation and storage services rose by 1.5% (after +1.3%).
Prices for administrative and support service activities also decelerated in the second quarter of 2021 (+0.3% after +0.6%): those for temporary employment agency services were back on the rise (+0.8% after –0.1%), while those for rental and leasing services decelerated (+0.2% after +0.7%). Year on year, prices for administrative and support service activities however accelerated slightly again (+1.3% after +1.0% and +0.6%).

In the second quarter of 2021, producer prices of services sold to households in France were back on the rise (+0.8% after +0.1%), mainly due to the seasonal rebound in prices for transportation and storage services (+3.2% after –1.5%). The prices for professional, scientific and technical activities remained dynamic (+1.2% for the third quarter in a row). Year on year, producer prices of services sold to households in France accelerated sharply (+1.2% after +0.3%), in connection with the stagnation in prices in the second quarter of 2020.

Services sold on foreign markets: +3.5%
In the second quarter of 2021, exported services producer prices rose strongly again (+3.5% after +3.2%). They were mainly driven up by the persistent dynamism in prices for transportation and storage services (+9.3% after +11.4%). In particular, those for sea and coastal freight water transport services rose very strongly again (+16.6% after +23.4%), as a result of a sustained rise in demand while capacities were still limited. Year on year, exported services producer prices accelerated again (+7.2% after +4.5% and +1.5%).
