Producer prices in French industry: +1.1%
In July 2021, the industrial producer prices rose by 1.1% (as in the previous month): the rise was more marked for products for the home market (+1.3% after +1.1%) than for those for the foreign markets (+0.7% after +1.2%). Year on year, the industrial producer prices kept rising strongly (+8.0% after +7.2%).
HOME MARKET: +1.3%
The industrial producer prices for the home market rose in July 2021 by 1.3% over a month (after +1.1%) and accelerated also over a year (+8.6% after +7.6%). Those of manufactured products increased by 0.8% over a month, as in the previous month, and by 6.6% over a year (after +6.1%).
Sharp rise in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In July 2021, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rose by 2.6% over a month (after +2.4%). The prices of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning rose sharply (+3.4% after +2.7%), driven up notably by those of trade services of gas through mains (+9.7% after +8.2%), in connection with an increase in regulated tariffs. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water accelerated (+15.1% after +13.0%).
Persistent rise in prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” kept rising in July 2021: +0.9% (after +0.8%). In line with the strong increases in steel prices, metal product prices continued to rise sharply (+3.9% after +3.5%) and those of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, went up by 0.9% (after +0.8%). Furthermore, the prices of chemicals and chemical products accelerated markedly (+1.6% after +0.5%), in the wake of the commodity prices of recent months. Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” rose strongly in July 2021: +7.0% (after +6.0% in the previous month).
Deceleration in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum rose by 4.2% in July 2021 over a month (after +7.7%) and thus reached their highest level since May 2019. Over a year, they rose by 55.9% (after +62.8%).

Slight rise in transport equipment prices
In July 2021, the prices of transport equipment went up by 0.4% over a month (after +0.3%), driven up by those of motor vehicles (+0.5% after +0.4%). Over a year, they accelerated slightly (+3.1% after +2.7%).
Slowdown in the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery
In July 2021, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery went up by 0.2% over a month (after +0.5%) and by 1.9% over a year (after +1.6%).
Virtual stability in food and beverage prices
In July 2021, the food and beverage prices were almost stable over a month (+0.1% after a stability), despite a significant drop in the prices of processed and preserved meat (–1.5% after –0.7%). Year on year, the food and beverage prices rose by 2.6% (after +2.5%).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +0.7%
In July 2021, the industrial producer prices for the foreign markets decelerated over a month (+0.7% after +1.2%), as did those of manufactured products (+0.6% after +0.8%). Over a year, they rose by 6.8% (after +6.4%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” went up by 0.7% over a month (after +1.0%): those of basic metals accelerated (+4.1% after +2.9%), while those of chemicals and chemical products fell back (–0.8% after +1.3%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” continued to rise sharply in July 2021 (+8.7% after +8.2%).
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products decelerated slightly over a month (+5.3% after +6.6%) and more markedly over a year (+67.9% after +83.0%).
At last, the food and beverage prices were on the rise again in July 2021 (+1.1% after two months of stability), both for foods (+0.9% after –0.1%) and for beverages (+1.6% after +0.1%). Over a year, they accelerated markedly (+2.3% after +0.8%).

Import prices of industrial products: +1.9%
In July 2021, the import prices of industrial products rose by 1.9% (after +1.4%), driven up by those of unrefined hydrocarbons. Manufactured product prices went up by 0.9%, as in the previous month. Over a year, the import prices of industrial products continued to soar: +11.9% (after +10.5%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” kept rising by 1.1% over a month. In accordance with their usual seasonal pattern, those of wearing apparel increased by 3.3% (after –0.5%). Those of basic metals slowed down slightly (+2.3% after +3.0%), as did those of chemicals and chemical products (+0.9% after +1.7%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” went up by 10.5% in July 2021 (after +9.4%).
The prices of coke and refined petroleum products slowed down slightly over a month (+4.6% after +6.4%) but remained on a strong upward trend over a year (+54.3% after +60.3%).
At last, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery went up by 0.3% over a month (as in the previous month) and by 1.6% over a year (after +1.4%).

Definition
The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method
They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise), which is operated by INSEE.

Definition
The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method
They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise), which is operated by INSEE.
