In June 2021, the industrial producer prices accelerated over a month (+1.0% after +0.4%), both on the home market (+1.1% after +0.4%) and the foreign markets (+1.0% after +0.3%). Year on year, they kept rising strongly (+7.1% after +6.7%), as a consequence of the low prices observed in the spring of 2020 in connection with the health crisis, but also as a result of the recent surges in some raw material prices due to the economic recovery.

Producer prices in French industry: +1.0%
In June 2021, the industrial producer prices accelerated over a month (+1.0% after +0.4%), both on the home market (+1.1% after +0.4%) and the foreign markets (+1.0% after +0.3%). The industrial producer prices for the home market rose by 1.1% in June 2021 (after +0.4%), driven up equally by those of manufactured products (+0.8% after +0.7%) and those of mining and quarrying products, energy and water. Year on year, they rose by 7.5% in June 2021 (after +7.2%).
Rebound in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In June 2021, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rose by 2.3% over a month (after –0.6%). Electricity production and trade prices bounced back (+2.2% after –3.5%), while those of trade services of gas through mains kept rising sharply (+6.8% after +6.9%), following the upward adjustment of regulated tariffs. Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rose by 12.8% (after +10.7%).
Rise in refined petroleum product prices
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products sped up (+7.7% over a month in June 2021, after +3.3%). Over a year, they slowed down but continued to rise sharply (+62.8% after +92.3%).

Persistent rise in prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” kept rising by 0.8% in June 2021. In line with the strong increases in steel prices, metal product prices sped up (+3.3% after +2.1%) and those of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment, rose by 0.8% (after +0.7%). Furthermore, the prices of chemicals and chemical products slowed down (+0.9% after +1.8%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” kept accelerating in June 2021 (+5.8% after +5.3% and +4.2%).
Slight rise in transport equipment prices
In June 2021, the prices of transport equipment kept rising by 0.3% over a month, driven up by those of motor vehicles (+0.4% after +0.6%). Over a year, they grew by 2.6% (after +2.8%).
Moderate increase of the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery
In June 2021, the prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery rose by 0.3% over a month (after +0.1%), driven notably by those of electrical equipment (+0.7% after +0.4%). Over a year, they went up by 1.5% (after +1.1%).
Virtual stability in food and beverage prices
In June 2021, the food and beverage prices were virtually stable over a month (–0.1% after +0.7%) and rose by 2.4% over a year (as in the previous month).

FOREIGN MARKETS: +1.0%
In June 2021, the industrial producer prices for the export markets rose by 1.0% over a month (after +0.3%), driven up by those of electricity. Those of manufactured products grew by 0.5%, as in the previous month. Over a year, the industrial producer prices for the foreign markets kept accelerating (+6.3% after +5.5% and +4.9%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” slowed down over a month (+0.4% after +1.1%), in particular those of basic metals (+2.8% after +3.2%), while those of chemicals and chemical products fell back slightly (–0.6% after +1.5%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” kept speeding up strongly in June 2021 (+8.0%, as in May).
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products accelerated over a month (+6.5% after +3.9%) and continued to rise sharply over a year (+82.8% after +102.1%).
At last, transport equipment prices bounced back in June 2021 over a month (+0.3% after –0.4%) but remained on a downward trend over a year (–0.7% after –2.0%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +1.4%
In June 2021, the import prices of industrial products rose by 1.4% (after +1.5%), driven up by those of unrefined hydrocarbons. Manufactured product prices went up by 0.9%, as in the previous month. Over a year, the import prices of industrial products increased sharply: +10.4% (after +10.6%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” rose by 1.0% over a month (after +1.2%). Among these, those of basic metals slowed down (+2.9% after +4.1%) while those of chemicals and chemical products rose by 1.7%, as in May. Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” kept speeding up sharply in June 2021 (+9.3% after +8.1% and +6.0%).
The prices of coke and refined petroleum products rose by 6.6% over a month (after +4.2%) and by 60.6% over a year (after +91.8%).
Transport equipment prices rose by 0.2% over a month (after +0.4%) and by 1.5% over a year (after +1.6%).
At last, the prices of food products, beverages and tobacco went up very slightly over a month (+0.2% after +0.7%) but rose by 4.2% over a year (as in the previous month).

Definition
The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method
They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise), which is operated by INSEE.

The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
Calculation method
They are calculated on the basis of the results of the survey « Observation of prices in industry and services » (Opise), which is operated by INSEE.
