In June 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased (−2.0%), following a growth in May (+1.5%). The turnover dropped sharply in food products (−5.6% after −0.4%), possibly in connection with the reopening of bars and restaurants, and the easing of remote working orders. The turnover stabilized in non-food products, following a slight increase in May (+0.5%). Concerning the sales of automotive fuel, the turnover continued to grow strongly in June after the rebound of May (+13.6% after +19.6% in May). It thus returned for the first time to its pre-pandemic level.

The turnover dwindled in both supermarkets (−2.1% after +2.0%) and hypermarkets (−0.9% after +0.8%).

In June 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing decreased (−2.0%), following a growth in May (+1.5%). The turnover stabilized in non-food products, following a slight increase in May (+0.5%). Concerning the sales of automotive fuel, the turnover continued to grow strongly in June after the rebound of May (+13.6% after +19.6% in May). It thus returned for the first time to its pre-pandemic level.

The turnover dwindled in both supermarkets (−2.1% after +2.0%) and hypermarkets (−0.9% after +0.8%).

Increase in turnover over a year (+7.2%)

With a base effect due to the first lockdown in spring 2020, the turnover of the second quarter of 2021 in large-scale food retailing increased (+7.2%) when compared with that of the second quarter of 2020. The sales increased slightly in food products (+1.1%), while they remained stable in non-food products and expanded considerably in automotive fuel (+70.3%).

Year on year, sales over the second quarter 2021 grew both in supermarkets (+6.0%) and hypermarkets (+8.4%), the latter had been more impacted than supermarkets by the first lockdown.
