In April 2021, turnover fell back in manufacturing industry (−3.9%) Turnover in industry and construction - April 2021
In April 2021, turnover fell back in the manufacturing industry (−3.9% after +8.0%) as in industry as a whole (−3.8% after +6.1%).
Export turnover also fell back sharply in April (−2.9% after +14.5%).
Compared to February 2020 (last month before the first lockdown), turnover decreased sharply in the manufacturing industry (−3.8%) and more moderatly in the whole industry (−1.4%).
In the following paragraphs, percentage changes by subsections are presented in descending order of their contribution to the overall percentage change of the industrial production index. The contribution of a subsection takes into account its weight and the magnitude of its evolution.
All data are corrected for seasonal and working day effects (SA-WDA).
In April, turnover in the manufacturing industry declined especially in the manufacture of transport equipment
In April, turnover decreased sharply in the manufacture of transport equipment (−17.5% after +44.1%), due to a sharp fall in the “other transport equipment“ (−29.0% after +116.6%). The turnover also decreased in the manufacture of food products and beverages (−2.3% after +3.2%), in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−5.4% after +14.9%), and in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (−1.4% after +2.5%); the decline was particulary strong in the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (−5.6% after +8.0%). The turnover was virtually stable in “other manufacturing” (−0.1% after +1.5%).
Compared to February 2020, turnover decreased strongly in the manufacture of transport equipment (−24.0%), and in the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products (−17.5%). Conversely, turnover increased in the manufacture of machinery and equipment goods (+1.3%), in the manufacture of food products and beverages (+1.0%) and in “other manufacturing” (+2.6%), where it declined only in the manufacture of textiles, wearing apparel, leather and related products (−2.6%). Compared to February 2020, turnover was particularly dynamic in mining and quarrying; energy; water supply; waste management (+10.2%).
