Producer prices in French industry: stability
The industrial producer prices were stable in April 2021 (after +1.0%): the decrease in prices for the home market (–0.3% after +1.0%) was offset by the rise of those for the foreign markets (+0.8% after +1.0%). Year on year, the industrial producer prices accelerated strongly (+6.4% after +4.1%), as a consequence of the low prices observed in the spring of 2020 in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic.
HOME MARKET: –0.3%
The industrial producer prices for the home market fell back in April 2021 (–0.3% after +1.0%). The sharp seasonal decrease in the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water was not fully offset by the rise in manufactured product prices (+0.5% after +0.9%). Year on year, the industrial producer prices for the home market kept speeding up sharply in April 2021 (+7.3% after +4.6% and +2.0%).
Seasonal decline in prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water
In April 2021, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water fell back sharply (–2.5% after +1.0%). The prices of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning fell by 3.3% (after +0.4%); mainly due to a seasonal drop in electricity transmission prices and, to a lesser extent, to a decline in electricity production and trade prices (–2.2% after +1.6%). Year on year, the prices of mining and quarrying products, energy and water rose however by 13.0% (after +7.4%).
Acceleration of prices of the “other industrial products”
The prices of the “other industrial products” remained very dynamic in April 2021 (+1.0% after +0.7%), mainly due to rises in raw material prices. The prices of chemicals and chemical products slowed down slightly (+2.2% after +3.7%). Those of basic metals sped up (+3.8% after +1.4%), as did those of rubber and plastics products (+1.8% after +0.5%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” rose by 4.0% in April 2021 (after +2.6%).
Deceleration in food and beverage prices
In April 2021, the food and beverage prices rose by 0.3% (after +0.7%), driven up by those of processed and preserved meat (+1.8% after +2.3%) and of dairy and cheese products (+0.6% after +0.5%). Year on year, the food and beverage prices went up by 1.3% (after +0.7%).
Slight decline in refined petroleum product prices over a month
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products fell back slightly in April 2021 over a month (–0.9% after +6.5%). Over a year they recorded a historic jump: +128.7% (after +53.0%).

In April 2021, the export producer prices for the whole industry rose by 0.8% (after +1.0%), driven up by those of manufactured products (+0.5% after +1.1%) and of electricity. Year on year, they kept speeding up (+4.9% after +3.2% and +0.9%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” remained on an upward trend (+1.1% after +1.5%), driven up by those of chemicals and chemical products (+1.1% after +2.8%), of basic metals (+3.5% after +3.4%) and of rubber and plastics products (+2.1% after +0.5%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” rose by 5.7% in April 2021 (after +3.9% in the previous month).
The prices of food products and beverages slowed down over a month (+0.5% after +0.9%) and remained down over a year (–0.8% after –1.3%).
In the wake of crude oil prices, the prices of refined petroleum products fell very slightly over a month (–0.6% after +6.3%) and sped up strongly over a year (+122.8% after +40.9%).
At last, the prices were virtually stable in April 2021 for transport equipment (–0.1% after +0.6%) and for electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery (+0.1% after +0.3%).

Import price indices of industrial products: +0.9%
In April 2021, the import prices of industrial products sped up slightly (+0.9% after +0.7%), despite the very slight slowdown in manufactured product prices (+0.7% after +0.8%). They sped up strongly over a year (+9.1% after +5.7%).
The prices of the “other industrial products” rose by 1.1% (after +1.2%). Due to the rise in raw material prices, the prices kept rising sharply for chemicals and chemical products (+2.6% after +4.0%) and for basic metals (+2.8% after +2.2%). On the contrary, prices of wearing apparel fell (–1.8% after –1.0%). Year on year, the prices of the “other industrial products” kept speeding up: +5.6% (after +3.9% and +2.2%).
The prices of electrical, computer and electronic equipment and machinery rose by 0.4% (after +0.1%), driven up by those of computers and peripheral equipment (+1.7% after +0.5%). Year on year, they went up by 0.6% (after +0.1%).
The prices of food products, beverages and tobacco rose by 0.9% over a month (after +0.7%), driven up again by those of dairy and cheese products (+3.0% after +3.5%) and those of processed and preserved meat (+3.0% after +2.1%). Year on year, they kept speeding up (+3.3% after +1.8% and +0.8%).
The prices of coke and refined petroleum products rose very slightly over a month (+0.7% after +3.9%) and sped up strongly over a year (+84.5% after +35.2%).
At last, the prices of transport equipment were stable over a month (after +0.6%) and went up by 1.2% over a year (after +1.3%).

Definition
The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.

Definition
The producer price indices in industry measure the change of producer prices of goods and services, linked to a given industrial activity and sold on the home market or on the foreign markets.
The import price indices of industrial products measure the change of transaction prices of goods and services purchased by economic agents established on French territory to non-resident agents.
