In Q1 2021, the prices of buildings' maintenance and improvement works rose by +1.3% Buildings maintenance and improvement price index - first quarter 2021
In Q1 2021, buildings’ maintenance and improvement work prices (IPEA) accelerated significantly (+1.3%, after +0.2% in Q4 2020) particularly in joinery installation works (+2.7% after +0.1%), roofing (+1.6% after +0.1%), plastering (+1.3% after +0.0%), electrical installation (+1.5% after +0.6%) and floor and wall covering (+0.8% after +0.0 %).
The acceleration of prices was less moderated in painting and glazing (+0.6% after +0.4%) and plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation works (+0.4% after +0.1%). Prices kept being on a downward trend in other construction installation (–0.5% after –0.1%).
Over the quarter, prices rose at the same rate in the non-residential and in the residential sector (+1.2%).
Over one year, buildings' maintenance and improvement work prices increased by 1.8% in Q1 2021 after +0.9% in the previous quarter. The increase was also the same in the non-residential and in the residential sector (+1.7%).
Prices fell back in other construction installation (–1.1% after +0.7%) but stayed dynamic in plastering (+4.5% after +4.8%). They increased at roughly the same pace as in the same quarter in plumbing, heat and air-conditioning installation (+1.1% after +1.0%). Conversely, they bounced back in floor and wall covering (+0.8% after –0.2 %) and sped up in joinery installation (+3.0% after +0.9%), roofing (+1.4% after +0.1%), electrical installation (+1.7% after +1.0%) and, to a lesser degree, in painting and glazing (+1.7% after +1.4%).
Revisions
The evolution in the IPEA price index between the third quarter and the fourth quarter of 2020 was unchanged at +0.2%.

The buildings’ maintenance and improvement work price index (IPEA) is a quarterly index which measures the evolution of prices net of taxes charged by construction enterprises (including artisanal forms) for their maintenance and improvement works in residential and non-residential buildings during the quarter under review.
The IPEA indices are not seasonally nor working-day adjusted.
