In March 2021, agricultural producer prices increased by 3.7% year on year. Excluding fruit and vegetables, they were almost stable (–0.1%) over one month and rose by 3.5% year on year.
Fall in cereal prices over one month
In March 2021, cereal prices fell by –1.5% (after +1.5% in February), in the wake of the evolution of soft wheat prices (–2.3% after +0.5%) which were affected by weak demand and favourable global crop prospects. Maize prices also fell (–1.2% after +4.5%), mainly due to an upward revision of world stocks. However, cereal prices soared year on year (+25.0% after +24.5%).
Oilseed prices sped up (+9.1% after +5.1%). Rapeseed prices (+10.9% after +5.7%) and soybean prices (+3.7% after +0.2%) have accelerated due in particular to the strength of world demand for vegetable oil. Year on year, oilseed prices gained further momentum (+46.6% after +26.2% and +15.4%).

More about French agricultural price indices
The index of producer prices for agricultural products (IPPAP) measures the change in product prices when the products are put on the market for the first time. It is published in base and reference 100 in 2015. The weight-coefficients of fresh fruit and vegetables change every month so that they reflect their seasonal pattern. As a result their variations can be interpreted only year on year. If needed, indices are seasonally adjusted.
The index of the purchase prices of inputs for agricultural production (IPAMPA) reflects the price evolution of goods and services used in the agricultural process. It is not seasonaly adjusted.
The methodology of IPPAP is available on the Insee web site: https://www.insee.fr/en/metadonnees/source/indicateur/p1657/description
