In March 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing kept increasing (+2.3% after +0.3% in February). The turnover bounced back in food products (+1.3% after −0.5%), while it stalled in non-food products (−0.1% after +3.1%). Sales of automotive fuel carried on rising in March (+3.1% after +1.2%).

The turnover ramped up in supermarkets (+2.5% after +0.6%) and started to grow again in hypermarkets (+1.1% after a stability in February).

In March 2021, a further increase in large-scale food retailing turnover

In March 2021, the turnover in large-scale food retailing kept increasing (+2.3% after +0.3% in February). The turnover bounced back in food products (+1.3% after −0.5%), while it stalled in non-food products (−0.1% after +3.1%). Sales of automotive fuel carried on rising in March (+3.1% after +1.2%).

The turnover ramped up in supermarkets (+2.5% after +0.6%) and started to grow again in hypermarkets (+1.1% after a stability in February).

Increase in turnover over a year (+1.7%)

The turnover of the first quarter of 2021 in large-scale food retailing increased (+1.7%) when compared with that of the first quarter of 2020. Over that period, sales grew both in food products (+1.2%) and non-food products (+5.8%). Conversely, sales fell in automotive fuel (−3.6%).

Year on year, sales from January to March rose both in supermarkets (+0.8%) and hypermarkets (+1.2%).
